Queue-jumping allegations remind Albertans of the need for a health care public inquiry
Edmonton – Alberta Liberal Leader David Swann says that the queue-jumping allegations of former Alberta Health Services CEO Dr. Stephen Duckett are very serious and deserve investigation – the kind of open and thorough investigation that can be provided by the judicial public inquiry long championed by the Alberta Liberals.
Duckett claims that Members of the Legislative Assembly have helped friends and colleagues access preferential medical treatment, jumping ahead in line solely based on their political connections.
“Our system is meant to serve all Albertans regardless of ability to pay, social status or political affiliation,” Swann says. “If these allegations are true, then two-tier health care is already a reality, brought in through the back door by the Progressive Conservatives.”
For months, Alberta Liberals have called on the government to hold an open and transparent judicial public inquiry into allegations of government intimidation of health care professionals. This new revelation reinforces the need for such an inquiry.
“There are mounting allegations of corruption in this government’s management of public health care,” Swann says. “More than ever, we need a public inquiry to uncover the truth.”
The Alberta Liberal Caucus…There’s a better way.
