Education hotline lets students, parents and teachers tell their stories

Call 1-888-886-2834 to help the Official Opposition restore funding for public education

Calgary – Alberta Liberal Education Critic Kent Hehr says that the Official Opposition is here to listen to students, parents and teachers struggling to deal with the funding shortfall that has resulted in hundreds of layoffs, larger class sizes and program cuts across Alberta’s public schools.

The Alberta Liberals have opened a new Education Hotline that allows Albertans to tell their stories about how budget cuts have affected their classroom experiences.

Hehr is asking any Albertan who’s been affected by the education budget cuts to phone 1-888-886-2834 and record their stories. The Official Opposition can then take those stories to the Legislature and present them to the government, ensuring that the new premier and cabinet understand the real-world impacts of the budget shortfall.

“Ever since the budget was announced back in the spring, I’ve been raising the roof of the Legislature on behalf of the thousands of Albertans affected by the education budget cuts,” Hehr says. “Clearly the government isn’t listening to me, but they can’t ignore Albertans. Together we can convince the government to do the right thing for Alberta’s kids.”

The Alberta Liberal Caucus…There’s a better way.
