The Heart of a Western Tiger
We can transform Alberta into the heart of an economic tiger based in western Canada. We can do it by working with our neighbouring provinces to process our bitumen in the West rather than shipping all that opportunity to other countries. Kevin Taft first outlined his plan at a speech to the Downtown Calgary Rotary Club on September 11, 2007:

Accelerating Access: Policies to Speed Up Access to Health Care
Even with the best doctors, equipment, technology and research in the world, our health care system falls short if Albertans can’t access it in a timely manner. The Alberta Liberal Caucus is ready to speed up access to health care, with policies that will build and stabilize a health workforce large enough to meet today’s (and tomorrow’s) needs, support specialized surgical centres, ease emergency room overcrowding, and much more.
Democratic Renewal
Putting Democracy Back on Track
Government honesty, accountability and transparency aren’t just abstract ideals - they protect Albertans and ensure that their tax dollars are being used honestly and effectively.
Energy
Affordable and Reliable Electricity
Electricity is an essential part of our lives at home, at work and in business. Aside from heat and water, there is no other service as fundamentally tied to our quality of life and economic health. Download our electricity policy brochure.Education
Ending Student Hunger: A School Nutrition Program for Alberta
Even in a province as wealthy as Alberta, thousands of children go to school hungry. Download our new brochure, which outlines our plan for a school nutrition program for Alberta.
Finance
Funding Alberta’s Future
A Heritage Fund of $120 billion is the centrepiece of Alberta’s Opportunity: Funding Alberta’s Future.
The strategy provides a solution for turning Alberta’s non-renewable resources into a sustainable source of prosperity that will support world-class public services, an outstanding post-secondary education system and permanently competitive taxes.
Housing
Because Everybody Needs a Home: An Affordable Housing Plan for Alberta
Right now, thousands of Albertans can’t find a safe, affordable place to live. There aren’t enough affordable homes and rental spaces available to meet rising demand. As more and more people flock to Alberta in search of a better life, as our economy’s demand for skilled labour continues to rise, the problem only gets worse. An economy cannot function without homes for its workers, nor can individuals and families take full advantage of Alberta’s vast opportunity without an affordable place to live.

Finance
Oil and Gas Royalties: Where We Stand
An Alberta Liberal government would increase the government’s total take from oil and gas royalties to the level recommended by the royalty review panel. In 2006, this would have raised an extra $1.9 billion for Albertans, the owners of the resource. Premier Stelmach’s plan will fall half a billion dollars short of this goal every year.
Advanced Education
Resolving the Student Housing Crisis
With no place to live, there’s no way to learn. A Kevin Taft government would ensure that students will have access to affordable housing.
Children's Services
Child Care That Works
Alberta families need child care that works. Our province simply can’t sustain a high quality of life or a stable, healthy economy without accessible, affordable, high quality child care.
Community Development
The Future of Arts and Culture in Alberta
The long-term future of this province will be determined in the next few years. The Alberta Liberals want to deliver a government that puts arts and culture at the centre of that future.
Environment
Restoring Confidence: The Alberta Liberal Caucus Plan for Groundwater and Coalbed Methane
Alberta has a brilliant future in energy development ahead, both non-renewable and renewable. But it must be done right; public health and protection of water must be our first priorities.
Agriculture, Food, and Rural Development
Supporting Agriculture
The Alberta Liberal Caucus believes that agriculture is one of the pillars of Alberta’s prosperity and culture. That’s why we work hard to support our province’s agricultural industries.
Seniors and Community Supports
A Question of Proper Support: Persons with Developmental Disabilities
The PDD Funding Shortfall
Albertans with developmental disabilities have made important contributions to our province’s culture and prosperity. These citizens often need the assistance of the community to reach their full potential, but recent criticisms about the government’s approach to PDD funding have been brought to light by the Alberta Association for Community Living:

The Alternative: Environment Funding Needs to Come Now
One of the greatest things about living in Alberta is its immense natural beauty and its high quality of life. We are lucky to have such an abundance of natural areas and sources of fresh water.
Auto Insurance
The Alberta Liberal Caucus Plan for Public Auto Insurance
Alberta drivers are fed up with excessive rate hikes, handpicking clients, discrimination based on age and gender, and blaming victims for rising premiums. Changes introduced in 2004 won’t put an end to these unfair practices and won’t deliver the savings Albertans were promised.
