Welcome to the new Alberta Liberal Caucus website!

2007 promises to be an exciting year for Alberta. For the first time in many years, an untested Premier and a rookie government are facing a veteran opposition caucus. And that caucus has evolved from a team of effective critics to something much more: a Shadow Cabinet, a government in waiting.

Since the last election, the Alberta Liberal Caucus has developed a wide range of solid policies to improve the lives of Albertans. We’ve successfully pressured the government to raise the minimum wage and to treat Albertans with disabilities more fairly. We helped win the fight to protect public health care. We’ve held the government accountable for their failure to plan for the economic boom that is putting so much stress on our province’s infrastructure.

Late last year, we unveiled our plan to save 30% of oil and gas revenues - a plan that will reduce and eventually eliminate our frightening fiscal dependence on nonrenewable resources, as well as restoring Alberta’s infrastructure and creating a series of endowments to provide billions of dollars of sustainable funding for post-secondary education and the arts. And in January 2007 we announced an affordable housing plan that will create 10,000 affordable dwellings within five years.

But all that is just the beginning. Over the course of the next several months, the Alberta Liberal team of MLAs will bring forward a wave of exciting new policies that will set Alberta on a course to a sustainable future and open, accountable government.
