Official Opposition Motion Passes, Urges Government to Make Rodeo Alberta’s Offical Sport
On November 24, the Alberta Legislature passed Kevin Taft’s Motion 514, which reads, “Be it resolved that the Legislative Assembly urge the Government to make rodeo Alberta’s official sport.”
The motion received overwhelming all-party approval. The non-binding motion urges the government to adopt rodeo as Alberta’s official sport.
Wrapping up a campaign to garner support for the idea, Taft tabled letters in the Legislature from Ab Brewster, president of the Central Alberta Rodeo Association, and Danny Jones, president of the Ponoka Stampede Association, urging MLAs to adopt the motion.
“No other sport carries such a deep connection to our province’s land and wildlife, and that connection has played a huge role in Alberta’s economic growth and cultural development,†said Taft.
